About KBC Special Events
KBC Special Events is a long established event organiser, led up by Peter Wedderburn. Originally specializing in Business forums, Peter’s passion for running led him to transform the organisations focus into mass participation running events. Since 2013 the company has been involved in professional race organization. The Harry Hawkes 10, Hampton Court Half Marathon and Royal Borough of Kingston Half Marathon are all part of our current race portfolio.
The organisation aims to organize quality running events which will allow entrants to run enjoyable races with the potential to perform at the top of their ability.
Hampton Court Half Marathon
The original Hampton Court Half Marathon is run over a fast, flat and visually interesting route. The course borders the river-side grounds of the magnificent Hampton Court Palace to the South West of London. Runners enjoy full views of the Hampton Court Palace, the historic Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Marketplace, the picturesque village of Thames Ditton and the three mile stretch of the Barge Walk beside the Thames.
The course runs on pavement, shared pedestrian/cycle track, riverside way, tarmac paths through parks and woodland trails. The race starts at 08.30 a.m. with a closed road section. The early start gives all entrants a clear run on the open public road elements.
Harry Hawkes 10
The Harry Hawkes 10 is a 10 mile race in association with the Thames Ditton Cricket Club. The race pays homage to a real Harry Hawkes who lived in Thames Ditton in the early 1900’s, whose father ran a bottling company for ginger beer and mineral water. The Hawke’s legacy is at the heart of Thames Ditton history, including Harry Hawkes’ participation as the Captain of the Thames Ditton Cricket Club 2nd Eleven.
The cricket club named their 10 mile race in honour of Harry Hawkes and did so for 26 years. After a two year break, the club were keen to revisit this old favourite. KBC Special Events Ltd took on the roll of restarting the fast flat and scenic race that takes place every summer.
