Alimentaria Exhibitions, the Fira de Barcelona company that organizes Expo ANTAD & Alimentaria México together with ANTAD, has appointed Ricardo Márquez as director of the food and beverage fair.
Ricardo Márquez will combine the management of Alimentaria México with Alimentaria FoodTech, the leading trade fair for machinery, technology, processes and ingredients for the food and beverage industry in Southern Europe, which will take place in the fall of 2020 in the Gran area. Via de Fira de Barcelona. His responsibility at the helm of Alimentaria FoodTech has given the show heavy doses of innovation and business. The last edition of the fair, closed last May, gathered almost 40,000 professional visitors and 300 exhibiting companies in Barcelona.
Born in Mexico, the executive was educated in the United States – the country where he began his professional career – and moved to Barcelona in 2013 to pursue an MBA at ESADE Business School.
In addition to his extensive executive experience in the field of international exhibitions, Márquez also worked as Area Manager for Qatar in the International Business Department of Fira de Barcelona, successfully promoting the Qatar Motor Show and the Jewelery and Watches Exhibition in Doha. During his time in Qatar, he exported the know-how of the Barcelona trade fair institution to the Arab country and managed the development of Fira de Barcelona’s trade fair services business in that country. He previously worked on the planning and execution of the Barcelona Degusta event in 2015 as Deputy Director.
One of Márquez’s priorities as the new director of Alimentaria México will be to promote the internationalization of the exhibiting companies at this professional exhibition that is already a leader in Latin America. The last edition of Expo ANTAD & Alimentaria México took place in March this year and brought together more than 1,900 companies at Expo Guadalajara – of which 73% belonged to the food and beverage sector – in 48,000 m² of exhibition space, as well as 49,300 industry professionals, retail, distribution and food channels. 25% of the show’s participants come from thirty countries.
