Industry figures revealed

As in every period, COPAL has published data on the current state of the Argentine food and beverage industry (IAB). mercado Argentina had an improvement of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2012. This is due to the fact that there have been positive year-on-year variations in the last seven months, marking a recovery compared to the previous year (where production fell cumulatively consecutively). If oilseed milling is excluded for the same period, the growth is 2.1%.

External sales of IAB represented 34% of the country’s total exports in that period and 49.9% of the total exports of the manufacturing industry.

Food and beverage exports achieved a value growth of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2012, with an amount of 24,040 million dollars. On the contrary, the volume reached 33,122 thousand tons, decreasing by 3%. Meanwhile, the average price per ton rose cumulatively by 4.6%.

For its part, imports from the sector reached 1,242 million dollars, recording an increase of 5.1% compared to January-October 2012. In terms of quantity, it reached 866,693 thousand tons, achieving a cumulative increase of 9.6%, while the average price per ton suffered a drop of 4.1%.

Value of food sales i drinks in supermarkets increased during the period January-September 2013 (latest data available) by 24.5% compared to the same period in 2012, which is associated with a total of 61,450 million dollars.
