The Mexican bakery has completed the sale of its confectionery division

After the approval of the Federal Commission for Economic Market Competition (COFECE) the sale of Ricolino products (Ricolino) and its brands to Mondelēz International was completed.

With this operation, the multinational company wants to strengthen its position in snack and confectionery industry.

On April 25, 2022, it was announced that the Bimbo company signed an agreement to sell the pastry shop to the Ricolino company Mondelēz International, for a company value of 27 billion pesos ($1.367 million).

Details of the sale to Mondelēz

The companies detailed the closing of the acquisition does not include Ricolin’s brands and operations in Nicaragua and Honduraswhich Bimbo has agreed to keep separate and not sell unless regulatory approval is granted in those jurisdictions.

Operation Ricolina, which includes 6,000 workers, six production plants and a distribution platform with more than 3,000 routes reaching 600,000 points of sale, will be part of Mondelēz Snacking México.

Oriol Bonaclocha, president of Mondelēz México, stated that this new era for the company is a response to the multinational business and global growth strategy.

Grupo Bimbo announced that it has received authorization to sell Ricolinthe company with which it entered the confectionery segment in 1970. With the sale of this business division, announced in April, the Mexican company wants to focus on the bakery and snacks business.
