Since the cost of importing inputs for the production of paper and packaging has increased due to the change in the exchange rate, the price of paper is expected to rise.
The Chamber of Paper explained in a statement that paper and paper product manufacturers are analyzing the unsustainable situation they are in today and will try to influence their customers as soon as possible, with an increase estimated to be in the order of 10 to 20%.
The price increase, the press release added, will apply to all types of paper: writing and printing, newsprint, silk paper for making napkins, towels and facial tissues, and special packaging paper.
“Mexico has a great dependence on foreign countries in terms of fiber, that is, all the pulp that we use, and logically if the exchange rate goes up, the price automatically goes up,” said Pedro Silva, president of the Chamber of Paper.
