Mexico. – Presentation General report on the activities of the “Zero Hunger” Working Group.within its first year of operation, which seeks to contribute to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, activating impact initiatives to move indicators related to improving food security in Mexico.
The working group “Zero Hunger” has its history in 2019 with the signing of an agreement on cooperation between the private sector (Business Coordination Council and Global Compact Mexico) and the Office of the Presidency in response to a private initiative to implement activities that promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This is the first anniversary since the beginning of the work of this Working Group for eradicating hunger in the country, which shows the united will of different participants of the private initiative and civil society. “We reaffirm our commitment to achieving food security and sustainable development for Mexico,” he said. Goals of the Zero Hunger program
The Zero Hunger program is aimed at create a social intervention plan which unites the purposes of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs). In addition, it will seek to intervene in vulnerable populations with multidimensional food poverty, such as the state of Chiapas, with which vulnerable populations are expected to have good nutritional standards in the early stages.
Likewise, it will focus on reduction of food losses and waste (FLW) through the entire value chain, through specific initiatives such as the Food Pact, in order to make food and beverage production and consumption systems more sustainable. They aim to reduce FLW by 50% by 2030.
In the same way, we will try to promote literacy in matters of health and nutrition for the population that is in lack of food. This year, through institutions dedicated to health promotion, they will try to raise the awareness of young people about the problem of lack of food, but also train them in basic nutrition issues.
